BIO

Rebecca Kirwan is an award-winning filmmaker who values strong relationships as much as strong storytelling. With over ten years of experience behind the camera, her work in documentary and narrative films fuels her passion for telling impactful, life-changing stories.

As a young stage actress and writer, Rebecca found a love for the arts early on. Graduating from the esteemed Australian Film, Television, and Radio School in 2010, Rebecca earned a Graduate Certificate in Documentary Film.

Focusing her passion on discovering new and diverse stories to share with the world, Rebecca began her own company and freelance filmmaking business. Coming to the United States from Australia in 2019, Rebecca furthered her education and earned a Professional Certificate in Advanced Digital Filmmaking from the Digital Film Academy.

Rebecca’s films encompass non-profit organizations, educational topics, and corporate entities alike. Her determination to highlight quality stories through the lens has garnered her not only an outstanding reputation, but also the award for Best Documentary Short at the Lancaster International Short Film Festival in 2016.

Rebecca is not only a director, but she produces her own work, and she often aides film companies and individuals as an impact producer. With this role, Rebecca works to define the film’s message and understand who the audience will be. Particularly drawn to projects that centre on equality, justice and women's issues.

With an unending passion for film, Rebecca also spends her free time mentoring budding filmmakers, teaching them to hone their craft and produce quality films with heart and truth.

Rebecca is now into her second year as a casual film tutor for Bus Stop Films an organisation very close to her heart. Teaching filmmaking to people with disabilities and advocating for inclusivity in the film and television industry.

Rebecca has worked with individuals, corporations, production companies, television networks and not for profit organisations in Australia, New York, Los Angeles and London.

At the forefront of Rebecca's work is always authenticity, integrity, heart, inclusion and diversity.

Creativity is an energy. It's a precious energy, and it's something to be protected. A lot of people take for granted that they're a creative person, but I know from experience, feeling it in myself, it is a magic; it is an energy. And it can't be taken for granted.
